In documenting sufficient continuing education credit, there is a difference for
those individuals who are Limited Radiographer and Medical Radiographers renewing
for license in the State of Nebraska and the radiologic technologists renewing for
ARRT certification.
State of Nebraska Continuing Education Requirements for
Licensure
All Medical Radiographers and Limited Radiographers practicing in Nebraska, must
document at least twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education, related to Medical
Radiography, every two (2) years. Part 16.09, of the State of Nebraska Regulations
for Control of Radiation-Ionizing, describes continuing education requirements for
persons Performing Medical Radiography. The State may audit any renewal application,
to determine if compliance of continuing education requirements are being met by
the individual. Those selected for audit shall be required to produce documentation
of his or her attendance at those continuing education activities listed on the
renewal application. Therefore, documentation of continuing education is essential.
At a minimum, the documentation necessary for acceptance by the State must include:
- The Topic of the Program
- The Name of the Provider
- The Location of the Continuing Education
- The Date(s) of the Program
- The Number of Hours Received for the Program
The person must attend the complete continuing education course in order to get
credit for it. Partial credit will not be provided. One hour (fifty to sixty minutes)
of attendance equals one (1.0) hour of credit. The program must be of at least one
(1.0) hour of credit to be accepted by the State of Nebraska. The topic and/or objectives
must be related to Medical Radiography, which may include, but is not limited to:
Mammography, MRI, Computed Tomography, Cardiovascular Technology, Quality Management,
Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy, Ultrasound, Medical Dosimetry and Bone Densitometry.
The State of Nebraska will accept as continuing education, the following:
- Programs which meet the quality standards established by nationally recognized organizations
or associations of radiography. (e.g. ASRT)
- Passing an advanced level examination in Mammography, MRI, Computed Tomography,
Cardiovascular Technology, Quality Management, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy,
Ultrasound and Medical Dosimetry during the biennial renewal period, will satisfy
the twenty-four (24) hour continuing education requirement. This does not include
the Limited Operator exam sponsored by the State.
- Learning experiences, provided they are planned and conducted for individuals performing
Medical Radiography, which are related to the practice of Medical Radiography.
- Academic courses in an accredited post-secondary institution, which are related
to the specific knowledge and/or technical skills required for the practice of Medical
Radiography.
- Course, lectures or offerings related to the technical and scientific knowledge
for the practice of Medical Radiography, which include, but are not limited to:
- Radiation Protection
- Equipment maintenance
- Image production and evaluation
- Patient care and management
- Quality assurance activities
- A course in CPR, which results in certification by the American Heart Association
or the American Red Cross. The certification shall be valid at the time of renewal.
Only three (3) credit hours for CPR will be counted during the biennial renewal
period.
- Home studies that have been assigned a specific number of continuing education credit
hours by the home study provider.
- Continuing education obtained to meet continuing education requirements for a health
care profession other than Medical Radiography. There must be a rational connection
to the practice of Medical Radiography. No more than four (4) credit hours for this
type of continuing education may be counted within each year of the biennial renewal
period.

ARRT Continuing Education Requirements for the Radiologic Technologist
All Radiologic Technologists with ARRT certification must document at least twenty-four
(24) hours of continuing education, related to Medical Radiography, every two (2)
years.
Acceptable options for continuing education are:
- Within a biennium complete at least 24 hours of continuing education in the Category
A or A+ (Category B credits are no longer acceptable). In order for the activity
to be identified as Category A or A+, the education program must be approved by
a Recognized Continuing Education Evaluation Mechanism (RCEEM) or a RCEEM+.
Hospital accreditation (Joint Commission) and federal government (OSHA) education
requirements such as fire safety, lifting procedures, patient restraints, etc. are
not allowed as continuing education credit unless the activity has been approved
by a RCEEM.
Directed readings, home study courses, or Internet activities reported in a biennium
may not be repeated for credit in the same or any subsequent biennium.
- The ARRT will award a maximum of six CE credits per biennium with demonstration
of and advanced CPR card in ACLS, PALS or Instructor or Instructor Trainer CPR certification
from the Red Cross, the Heart Association or the American Safety and Health Institute.
The ARRT will no longer accept CE credit for basic CPR (BLS, BLS with AED, or Health
care Provider CPR).
- Approved academic courses in the areas of biologic sciences, physical sciences,
radiologic sciences, health and medical sciences, social sciences, communication
(verbal and written), mathematics, computers, management or education methodology.
Courses identified as not applicable are archeology, astronomy, fine arts, geology,
geography, history, music, philosophy and religion.
Sixteen continuing education credit hours for each academic semester credit and
12 continuing education credit hour for each academic quarter credit. Documentation
of pass (for pass/fail) or grade of “C” or better is required to receive credit.
- Within a biennium complete certification in a primary or post-primary discipline.
Examples of primary examinations that have been approved by the ARRT are:
1. Radiography through ARRT
2. Nuclear Medicine Technology through ARRT or NMTCB
3. Radiation Therapy through ARRT
4. Sonography through ARRT
5. Magnetic Resonance Imaging through ARRT
6. Dosimetry through MDCB
7. Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Vascular Technology or Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography
through the ARDMS (initial certification only; exams in additional specialty areas
do not qualify for ARRT credit)
8. Radiology Adminstration through AHRA
Examples of approved post-primary examinations are:
1. Mammography through ARRT
2. Computed Tomography through ARRT
3. Magnetic Resonance Imaging through ARRT
4. Quality Management through ARRT
5. Sonography through ARRT
6. Vascular Sonography through ARRT
7. Bone Densitometry through ARRT
8. Vascular-Interventional Radiography through ARRT
9. Cardiac-Interventional Radiography through ARRT
10. Breast Sonography through ARRT
11. Radiologist Assistant through ARRT
12. Nuclear Cardiology through NMTCB
13. Positron Emission Tomography through NMTCB
14. Certified Imaging Informatics Professional through ABII CE credits will not
be re-awarded for re-examination in a discipline in which an individual holds certification.
